Military life? Oh, it’s like being in the world’s most exclusive club where the membership fee is just, you know, everything. It’s where you find those ride-or-die friends who are more like family because you’ve all seen things you can’t unsee. Every time someone is deployed, it’s like they’re off to save the world – again. And here’s to the real MVPs: the spouses, yep that’s us! We are making sure life doesn’t fall apart while our other half is away.

Deciding to be the one who stays behind? That’s a whole different kind of superhero gig. It’s not just about holding down the fort; it’s about being the glue for those left waiting. So, if you’re part of this crazy, mixed-up military world, or know someone who is, let’s raise our glasses to the unsung heroes at home, yep us. 

Choosing to stay home is a big decision. Did you know that more than 40% of all military spouses are currently working as at-home parents!?

Anyhow, here are 5 reasons why most of us choose to stay at home on the daily:

• We don’t want to start a career over every 2 years. Yep, most of us have to start from scratch after being established in a job because we move so often.
  
• Finding new childcare everytime we move. It is hard enough finding childcare in one place, let alone every 2 or 3 years.

• Blank spaces in our resume. We cannot fill out our resume like everyone else since we move so often. It takes me at least 6 months to get acclimated to a new place, so applying/finding a new job everytime we move is just not feasible for me.

• To provide consistency for our families in the midst of chaos. We move so often, hubby is gone here and there, the one thing that stays the same is us staying at home and holding down the fort.

• To have the flexibility necessary for all the unknown. The military lifestyle is so unpredictable that you have to be able to change your plans last minute. By staying at home, I can change my plans whenever I choose.

Whether you choose to stay at home or decide to take on the task of finding a job you are a true hero regardless, for being part of this crazy life.
