I call my family once a week and update them on what is happening in my life and get to hear about what is happening in theirs.Â

Social media platforms and messaging apps like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Instagram make it easy to share everyday moments. Post photos, share stories, and send quick messages to keep the connection alive. I use social media to stay updated with my friends’ lives and to share my own experiences, which helps me feel less isolated sometimes.
3. Send Care Packages and/or Handwritten Letters
There’s something incredibly special about receiving a package or a letter from home, it can bridge the physical gap. Handwritten letters, on the other hand, add a personal touch that digital communication often lacks. When I first moved to the US, I was writing letters to my dad every week! It was so exciting, I loved writing them and he loved receiving them!
Exploring and Engaging with Your New Community
Get to know your new surroundings and immerse yourself in the local culture. Attend community events, explore local attractions, and try new activities. This not only helps distract from homesickness but also helps you appreciate the unique experiences your new location offers.
